Natural Forces: Northern Nevada’s Newly Energized Economy

Well over a century has passed since the days of the Comstock Lode, when silver was the most important resource produced in Northern Nevada. Today, Nevada’s new cash crop is tied to a less volatile resource, one that cannot be depleted like silver. This most important and renewable commodity — energy — has yet to be fully tapped. Once Nevada’s renewable energy is fully utilized, not only will consumers have a cleaner means by which to live, they will experience an entirely new type of independence — something all Northern Nevadans will appreciate.

Beginning a Relationship with the Break Up in Mind: Drafting Valid Arbitration Clauses in An Employment Agreement

The default relationship between employees and their employers allows an employer to terminate an employee at any time for any reason; this default relationship is known as employment at-will. State v. Eighth Judicial Dist. Court ex rel. County of Clark, 118 Nev. 140, 151, 42 P.3d 233, 240 (2002) (It is well settled in Nevada that generally an at-will employee can be terminated “whenever and for whatever cause” without giving rise to liability on the part of the employer.). Most employers prefer the employment at-will relationship as it allows them to expand or contract their workforce in response to unpredictable and ever-changing economic forces.
