LAS VEGAS – Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Rita and its effects on the Texas Wildcatters professional hockey team, the Las Vegas Wranglers have made a change to their 2005-2006 schedule, adding a home game Nov. 4 and donating $5 for every ticket sold for this game to hurricane relief efforts. And, for each $5 donation made by the Wranglers, the Nevada law firm of Kummer Kaempfer Bonner Renshaw & Ferrario (KKBR&F) will match the amount, donating up to $15,000 for relief efforts.

“We are hoping for a full house,” said Jon Leleu, a KKBR&F attorney who also serves as the Las Vegas Wranglers’ general counsel. “By partnering with the Wranglers for Hurricane Relief Night, we are encouraging our community to come out and enjoy an evening of great hockey, while at the same time, helping support the hurricane victims with much-needed funds as they work to rebuild their lives. I continue to be amazed with the generosity of our local community and hope to write out a check for the entire amount.”

The Nov. 4 matchup between the Phoenix Roadrunners and The Las Vegas Wranglers begins at 7:05 p.m. at the Orleans Arena. Fans may order tickets by phone at (702) 284-7777 or on the Web at www.orleansarena.com or by visiting www.lasvegaswranglers.com. Ticket locations include the Orleans Arena Box Office, Coast Casinos’ showroom box offices at The Orleans, Gold Coast, and Suncoast and at Galleria Mall guest relations and ticket centers.

The Nov. 4 game replaces the Wranglers’ originally scheduled Feb. 10 home game against the Texas Wildcatters. According to the Wranglers, the Wildcatters will not field a team in 2005-2006 due to the aftermath of Hurricane Rita in its home city of Beaumont, Texas.

Earlier this month, the Mississippi Sea Wolves were forced to withdraw from the ECHL when Hurricane Katrina blasted through their home in Biloxi, Miss.

“We’re hopeful that we can turn the new Nov. 4 date into a real contribution to the relief effort,” said Wranglers President and COO Billy Johnson in a previous statement. “Obviously, the impact of those storms to our team and fans is miniscule to what the victims have to endure.”

Ninety percent of KKBR&F’s donation will be given to the American Red Cross, and 10 percent will be provided to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The Las Vegas Wranglers
The Wranglers will open the 2005-06 season at the Orleans Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7:05 p.m. against the Utah Grizzlies. For information on Wranglers season seat packages, call (702) 471-7825 to contact the Wranglers office directly. The Wranglers play all 36 home games at the Orleans Arena, located at the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. Seat packages to see the Wranglers play at the Orleans Arena for the upcoming 2005-06 season are now on sale, starting as low as $150. Call (702) 471-7825 for more information or visit www.lasvegaswranglers.com.

Though the remaining 35 home dates and times remain unaffected, a handful of opponent changes to the Wranglers’ schedule stem from the loss of the Wildcatters this season, including games against the Alaska Aces and San Diego Gulls on Feb. 7 and 14, respectively. Las Vegas’ road schedule, however, has been scrambled more significantly. The team’s season opener pits the Wranglers against former Las Vegas International Hockey League rival Utah Grizzlies on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7:05 p.m.

Las Vegas Lawyer Writes Romantic Comedy

Friday, October 14th, 2005

Contact: Diane Lancaster Gibes, Brown & Partners (702) 967-2222 Tami D. Cowden, Author and Lawyer (702) 379-6266 For Release Oct. 14, 2005

LAS VEGAS – The statewide law firm of Kummer Kaempfer Bonner Renshaw & Ferrario (KKBR&F) is pleased to announce that attorney Tami D. Cowden has released her debut novel titled Cruising for Love, a contemporary romantic comedy featuring a woman determined to make her mark in her field, but who discovers that she can have additional elements in her life beyond that of her career.

Cruising for Love is the story of Nina Kerensky’s attempt to convince her beloved grandmother she’s happily married to a man she met only the day before they left for an Alaskan cruise. Cowden said, “Nina learns she’s always lived in a world that offered a smorgasbord of opportunity, but she’d only been putting lettuce on her plate.”

When asked why she chose this theme, Cowden said, “The world’s filled with people who decide their lives must follow a certain path. Too often, they fear to try new things or to take on new challenges. My heroine is so convinced that love and a family will keep her from achieving her goals that she’ll go to any length to avoid opening herself up to new relationships.”

Cowden’s debut effort earned her one of Romance Writers of America’s highest accolades – the Golden Heart, a prize given for outstanding romance manuscripts by previously unpublished authors. Reviews have also been favorable. “Cowden’s cute, light-hearted tale is perfect for a quick romance fix,” said Booklist (September 15, 2005). Roundtable Reviews agreed, saying “Packed with humorous characters, plot twists and surprises along the way, contemporary romance readers will be delighted with Tami Cowden’s debut novel.”

Cowden has been an attorney for eighteen years. Her legal career never kept her from marriage or children. In fact, her daughter was born between her second and third years of law school. Nevertheless, she does have one thing in common with Nina, the heroine of her novel. “I thought my career limited my choices. I’d always wanted to be a writer, but chose the more “practical” path of law. It wasn’t until I was much older than Nina that I realized that being a lawyer didn’t mean I couldn’t be a writer, too.”

Like Nina, Cowden has learned about the many choices life offers, and that it’s just fine to try a bit of everything.

A Henderson resident, Cowden practices law in KKBR&F’s litigation department. Her expertise lies in the areas of business and commercial litigation. Cowden is a member of the State Bar of Nevada, the Clark County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in Nevada and Colorado.

Prior to KKBR&F, Cowden practiced in the area of construction defect litigation, bankruptcy, and business and commercial litigation. She also served as a lawyering process professor at the University of Denver College of Law and as staff counsel for the Colorado Court of Appeals. She clerked for Edwin M. Ruland and Edwin Van Cise at the Colorado Court of Appeals. Cowden is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Nevada and Colorado, and before the 9th and 10th Circuit Courts of Appeal.

Cowden received a degree in history from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. in 1982 and her law degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1987.

Cruising for Love is her fifth book, but first novel. Other works by Cowden include The Complete Writer’s Guide to Heroes and Heroines: Sixteen Master Archetypes (Lone Eagle, 2000), coauthored with Caro LaFever and Sue Viders, and three short story anthologies: Love Triumphs (Dream Street Prose 2000), Love Mystifies (Dream Street Prose 2002), and Love Sizzles (Dream Street Prose, 2002).

Cruising for Love (ISBN: 0-8034-9734-2) is a hardcover book published by Avalon Books. It sells for $21.99 and has 184 pages.
