Northern Nevada Native Sev Carlson Joins the Law Firm of Kummer Kaempfer Bonner & Renshaw

RENO, Nev. – Severin “Sev” A. Carlson, a graduate of Bishop Manogue High School, has joined Kummer Kaempfer Bonner & Renshaw, becoming an associate in the Nevada law firm.

Carlson is a litigator who also has experience with state government and construction law. He will be working in Kummer Kaempfer Bonner & Renshaw’s Reno office, which opened last year on South Virginia Street in the South Meadows area. The office concentrates on serving the business community, working to provide legal representation for business customers statewide.
Prior to joining Kummer Kaempfer Bonner & Renshaw, Carlson practiced law in Salem, Ore., and clerked for a law firm in Carson City. He is a member of the State Bar of Nevada and the Oregon State Bar Association. He also holds a certificate in Chinese law from East China University of Politics and Law in Shanghai.

Born in Carson City, Carlson received a degree in political science from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. He went on to earn his law degree from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Ore.

While in law school, Carlson was a member of the Moot Court Board, where he was eventually elected and served as judge’s chair from 2003-2004. He was also selected to compete in the 2004 Judge John R. Brown National Admiralty Moot Court Competition in New Orleans. His active participation in various legal competitions and his tenure on the Moot Court Board earned him a nomination to the National Order of Barristers, an honor society that recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence in courtroom advocacy.

RENO, Nev. – Amy N. Tirre recently joined the law firm of Kummer Kaempfer Bonner & Renshaw. Tirre is a bankruptcy attorney who specializes in creditor’s rights and commercial litigation.

Tirre will be working in Kummer Kaempfer Bonner & Renshaw’s Reno office, which opened last year on South Virginia Street in the South Meadows area. The office serves the business community, working to provide legal representation for business customers statewide.

Tirre has been practicing law in the Reno area for 11 years as a civil litigator. She has successfully represented secured and unsecured creditors in business and consumer bankruptcy cases. She began her legal career in northern Nevada as a law clerk for Justice Miriam Shearing of the Nevada Supreme Court.

Tirre is a leader and an active member of many community and law-related organizations. She is chairperson of the State Bar of Nevada’s Continuing Legal Education committee and serves as a moderator for its annual bankruptcy program. She also serves as a board member of KUNR Public Radio and recently chaired a fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada. Legislature Adopts Property Tax Relief, But Is It Constitutional?

Although generally considered a quiet legislative session,the 2005 Nevada Legislature will be remembered for its historic property tax relief legislation. While the need for legislative relief was not questioned, the method by which it was provided and the constitutionality of the legislation was and may continue to be in doubt. This article summarizes the legislation adopted by the Nevada Legislature and examines the constitutional principles guiding its adoption and, perhaps, its ultimate survival.
